Residential Paving

We specialize in constructing the best asphalt driveways in St. Louis.  Asphalt driveways are a great way to update your home to give it a fresh look.  Be assured that we pay attention to all details.  Proper drainage, straight edges, shapely edges, smooth finish, adequate thickness, and flush transitions are details in your asphalt driveway that should not be overlooked.  We will deliver the best residential driveway you can ask for.

Remove & Replace

This process of constructing a residential driveway involves us removing your old asphalt or concrete surface.  Your existing rock base will be left intact unless you decide to upgrade to our Perma-Base system.  We will then install additional rock to increase the overall strength of your new asphalt driveway.  The base rock is thoroughly compacted before paving.  The last step before paving your driveway is drawing out the edges and perimeter of the driveway and checking the base rock to make sure enough slope is present for water to drain off the surface.  Next we install our commercial grade hot asphalt with a self propelled paver.  The new asphalt is compacted and allowed time to set up before opening to vehicles.  There are many more details involved in paving your driveway so feel free to ask us about questions you may have.

Here are some advantages to removing and replacing your old asphalt driveway with a new asphalt driveway.

  • Weak areas in your base rock can be removed and replaced.
  • Drainage issues such as basement leaks or water puddles in your garage can be fixed.
  • Our minimum thickness is 2.5" compacted; which will give you a superior surface.  More thickness can be added if desired.
  • If your current driveway has crooked edges we can get them as straight as possible when installing a new driveway.
  • Drainage systems or other utility conduit  can be added easily.
  • Cobblestone borders can be added easily.
  • New surfaces are paved at a thicker depth compared to overlays. - This gives you a smoother, more consistent finish.  It also allows us more time to work with the asphalt material since it retains its heat longer.
  • We can alter the design of your existing driveway by widening or adding on to it.

Our estimator will help guide you through the process to make a decision that gives you the best results for your investment.

Overlay / Resurface

This process of constructing a residential driveway involves us removing sections of your existing asphalt surface.  We do this in order to be sure of two things: 1.) There will be enough slope present for water to drain away from structures. 2.) There will be a smooth transition with a consistently paved layer of asphalt. - We never "glue" driveways to an adjoining surface such as a street.  Instead we will saw-cut an existing section to be sure the new layer of asphalt is thick and sits flush with adjoining pavements.  If this is not done the driveway can be damaged by snow plows or will eventually erode away since the layer of asphalt is too thin to retain strength.  Before paving the driveway we will clear edges of vegetation and debris.  This helps us to establish a consistent edge.  We will straighten crooked edges to the best of our ability, but cannot guarantee it will be straight as a driveway constructed from scratch.  Next we will clean the surface and install optional crack barrier (Petro-Tac <http://www.ccpstl.com/crackbarrier>) if you have elected to do so.  Any low or deteriorated areas will be shored up with hot asphalt prior to installing the new pavement.  Finally, the last step before paving the driveway is coating the surface with an asphalt emulsion.  This acts as a primer that will bond the two surfaces together.  Next we install our commercial grade hot asphalt with a self propelled paver.  The new asphalt is compacted and allowed time to set up before opening to vehicles.  There are many more details involved in paving your driveway so feel free to ask us about questions you may have.

Here are some advantages to resurfacing / overlaying your old asphalt driveway with a new layer of asphalt.

  • Because we are adding a layer to your existing driveway labor and material costs are greatly reduced.  This of course translates into savings for you.  This doesn't mean you are getting a "cheaper" driveway.  In fact you may end up having a far superior driveway when compared to other processes; depending on the condition of your existing asphalt.
  • Major cracks can be reduced or eliminated in a controlled fashion because we know where the expansion is taking place that causes cracks.  We do this by installing a membrane that allows expansion to take place below the surface without transmitting a new crack through the surface.  If the crack barrier is not used the old cracks will likely come through the new surface. - This phenomenon is called reflective cracking.
  • If your current driveway has crooked edges we straighten them out as much as possible.  At the very least, they will have a defined more consistent look when we are finished.
  • A (heating system can be added to an overlay far easier than a brand new driveway.  Heated driveways will melt away ice and snow in the winter time.

Our estimator will help guide you through the process to make a decision that gives you the best results for your investment.  In many cases resurfacing cannot be done because of drainage constraints.  If there is not enough slope available to install an additional surface, the driveway will have to be removed and replaced.

New Construction

Are you building a new home or constructing a new garage?  Whatever your project consists of, we will pave a beautiful asphalt driveway for your home.  We will work with you or your engineer on making sure your expectations are met properly.  We offer plenty of options when constructing residential asphalt driveways.  If starting from dirt, we recommend letting us sub-grade your driveway to make sure proper depth is left for rock and pavement.  Our Perma-Base  system is also a must to ensure the best performance from your pavement.  A minimum of 6 inches of compacted rock is used by our methods.  More can be added if desired.

Here are some advantages to constructing a new asphalt driveway.

  • When constructed with Perma-Base you are virtually eliminating cracks and base failures.  Your load rating is also increased substantially.
  • Our minimum thickness is 2.5" compacted; which will give you a superior surface. More thickness can be added if desired.
  • Cobblestone borders can be added easily.
  • Drainage systems, irrigation, or other utility conduit can be added easily.
  • Materials are typically more affordable than other types of surfaces.
  • Asphalt surfaces can be repaired easily if damaged.  We can achieve seamless repairs through our infrared process.

Heated surface / Self thawing

Are you tired of trying to remove snow and ice from your driveway?  Is the snow plow driver damaging your driveway or landscaping?  Instead of getting heated about snow and ice, why not make your driveway do it?  Heaters can be added to a driveway easily in the overlay / resurfacing process.  We can also install heaters in new driveways too.  Creve Coeur Paving is St. Louis' only paving contractor that offers such conveniences.  Ice and snow will be melted away within 8 minutes of the system activating.  You'll be left with a path that is hazard free.

We offer the following systems:

  • Simple, plug in system that heats two tracks for your tires to ride within.
  • Automatic systems that come on when precipitation and temperature are right.
  • Large systems that come on in zones, much like an irrigation system.
  • Large pads or areas that remove snow and ice from an entire area.

These systems are fully custom tailored to your needs.  We will work with licensed electricians to make sure your system is installed properly and performs flawlessly.  If possible, have the amperage rating of your household system available so that we can assist you faster.
