Cracks are an inevitable part of asphalt pavements. If left
untreated they will continue to expand and eventually turn into a
pothole. Cracks also allow water to infiltrate into rock bases, which
can cause more pavement damage. We offer two popular methods of
filling and maintaining cracks. There are generally two accepted
methods for filling cracks. This first method involves using
inexpensive cold, liquid crack filler. Using this type of crack filler
is usually reserved for residential surfaces. The second method
involves pre-treating the crack and applying a hot rubberized product
to effectively control further damage.
Creve Coeur
Paving typically only uses liquid crack filler on driveways. We do
this because the cracks on a driveway are not subjected to the same
type of traffic that parking lot or road is. Because of this, it isn't
necessary to apply heavy duty filler. Also the liquid filler is more
aesthetically pleasing. Liquid crack filler is left perfectly flush
and when sealed, does not leave a veined look. Cracks will reappear
typically within two years, but can be filled again for very little
money.
If a more durable product is desired and aesthetics
aren’t an issue, you can use our (commercial method of filling cracks on
your driveway.

Commercial asphalt surfaces such as roads, or parking lots require a
commercial method of crack filling. Creve Coeur Paving doesn't just
fill the cracks in your surface. We pre-treat the cracks first with a
highly pressurized crack jet. The crack jet also injects a stream of
intense heat to dry the crack and soften the asphalt for a superior
bond. In addition to these benefits, the crack jet will remove debris,
litter, old crack filler, and vegetation from the cracks. You must
have a clean, dry crack before you can fill it properly.
Once the
crack has been treated by the crack jet, we will then apply Crafco PLS
rubberized sealant to the crack. We will do this at a temperature
range of 220 to 350 degrees. Once filled, a leveling tool strikes the
surface to make the material level and flush. This method creates a
band of filler that covers the crack and keeps it dry.
Keeping
cracks dry is very important. Water is a main contributor to damage on
parking lots. If cracks are not filled properly, water will be allowed
to penetrate the surface of the asphalt which will eventually lead to
severe damage. Once potholes form, the area will have to be excavated
and replaced. This is a costly process that can be avoided by
maintaining your pavement properly.
